For my friend Chef M aka Melissa Pelkay-Hass, The Front Porch Gourmet, this year the Run for the Roses (Kentucky Derby) was an extra special day. It was her birthday! and Melissa intended to celebrate in style (!) and invited friends to join her for not one but two back-to-back parties.
The afternoon began with a treat for Chef M’s food blogger pals ~ comp tickets to the Livingston Restaurant & Bar Kentucky Derby Party, located at the elegant Georgian Terrace Hotel on Peachtree Street in Midtown. The event was a fund raiser that supported the Sotherly Foundation which supports veterans.
From hats to bow ties, let me tell you in true Kentucky Derby stylin’ and profiln’ people took their fashion look quite seriously – both men and women!
As we gathered round to cheer on our favorite ponies we toasted Melissa with, what else, Mint Juleps of course! Thanks to the great bartenders at the Livingston for their attention to drink detail.
Just when we thought the party couldn’t get much more fun Chef M led the way through the Georgian Terrance Hotel to Edgar’s Proof & Provision for tasting dinner.
Edgar’s Proof & Provision, a pub concept restaurant, is a hidden gem in the basement of the Georgian Herrance Hotel. Walking into Edgar’s P&P you’ll feel like you’ve entered a 19th century pub but with 20th century sophisticated food from Executive Chef Mark Breualt.
First we were treated to yummy smoked almonds that went so well with our next round of beverages that we needed in order to continue toasting Chef M!
Then more and more dishes seemed to magically appear.
A few of the highlights included: black eye pea hummus that was light but creamy, cajun, smoked chicken wings with just the right heat and spice, a chichen and waffle slider with citrus that was not a bit greasy.
Chef Breault proudly presented one of his signature dishes – Next Level Deviled Eggs. In blogger transparency, I admit, although I do like deviled eggs, I find them, well sort of mundane. I know, sacrilegious of me especially since I’m living in the South. But I must confess, Chef’s eggs were EggMazing (ouch! Sorry for the bad pun). There was this bacon in bourbon (but I do love anything with bourbon!) that topped the bacon ranch deviled egg making it divalicious!
What’s a birthday celebration without a dessert or two or three? After all it was Chef M’s special day!
Thanks to the Livingston Restaurant and Bar | Edgar’s Proof and Provision | Georgian Terrace Hotel |Chef Mark Breault and of course Chef M aka Melissa Pelkay-Hass for including me in her happy happy day!
